A Dega Man Died After The Vietnamese Government Released Him From The Prison

Y-Piek Nie was born in 1975 in the village of Buon Jung, Commune Ea Ayong, District Krong Pac, Province of Dak Lak. He was arrested on January 14, 2006 and sent to the prison at Xuan Phuc camp. After 5 years the Vietnamese police accused him of violating Vietnamese law article 87 and charged him with discrimination, religious and political.

The Vietnamese then tortured Y-Piek Nie with electrical shocks. When officers took him to investigators he was beaten and hung up, causing him extreme body pain.

The Vietnamese government released him from prison on January 7, 2010. Before he signed the paperwork, the Vietnamese police had a party, cooking food and offering him sodas to drink. But the sodas contained poison. They then let Y-Piek Nie return home.

This poison takes one month to ten years to kill someone. He didn’t feel anything happening right away. He went home to his family and got married to a girl at Buon Mbriu village, District Ea Kar, province of Dak Lac. They had 3 children together. He began to get sick in 2019 experiencing loss of energy and fatigue everyday. Knowing he would not survive much longer, he told his wife to take him to his sister’s house. He said that he would die in their house and they would take care of his funeral.

He told his wife, “We have no money, nothing to take care of ourselves with.” Y-Piek Nie’s wife listened to him and followed him instructions. He then went to his sister's house for about a day at which time he began to bleed from his mouth and nose. He died on September 16, 2021.

Y-Piek Nie had a very difficult life and a very poor family. He came and left with empty hands. His funeral service took place on September 19, 2021.
