A Dega Man Killed In Vietnamese Prison

Recently, Vietnamese police officers killed one of our Dega people in prison. The Vietnamese government kills Dega Montagnards frequently because we are different from Vietnamese people.

Y-Cong Hdok was born in 2002 in Buon Kman Village, Communes Dur Kman, District Krong Ana, Province of Dak Lak. The Vietnamese police invited him to their office on June 23, 2021. When he arrived there an officer arrested and handcuffed him. He was brought to court and sentenced to 5 years in prison.

The charge was for participating in arguments between young boys in his village. The chiefs of that village reported to a Vietnamese police officer, and the police from that district sent him a letter calling him to their office, They kept him in jail in District of Krong Ana about one month. From there, the District judge transferred him to Dak Lak Capital Prison on July 23, 2021. He was a healthy young man at that time and very energized with kindness. A young man and true humanitarian.

On September 20, 2021, officials at Dak Lak jail sent him to a new prison called Dak Trung. An officer called his mother and father to let them know that he was in a new prison camp, but the officer did not allow his family to visit.

On October 5, 2021, the officer called about Y-Cong Hdok and told the family that he was in the hospital because he was sick. Y-Cong's family raced to the hospital that day but he was not there. A nurse and doctor said that his name was not on the list of patients.admitted there. On a second phone call, the officer told his family that he had passed away. Y-Cong Hdok's mother, father and relatives asked the officers if they could take his body home. The officer replied that they could. They then took his body home. As his family began to clean his body up they saw his chest was damaged and his face was broken. His jaws, and his body were crushed everywhere. His mother, father and friends knew what happened. There was no doubt that the police officer had killed him out of anger because he is one of the Dega people.
