Two Dega Men Were Arrested

Y-Wo Nie was born in 1970 in Buon Puk Prong village, commune Ea Ktur, District Cu Kuin, province of Dak Lak. Y-Nuel Nie was born in 1998 in Buon Gram B village Communes Ea Drong, District Cu Mgar, province of Dak Lak.


On September 13, 2021, at 6 AM, Vietnamese police officers from Dak Lak province, Cu Kuin District, and those within the local area arrested Y-Wo Nie and Y-Nuel Nie. They were brought to a police station in Cu Kuin. The Vietnamese police in Dak Lak arrested these men for taking religious classes addressing basic human rights and for being members of the International Dega Church.


Y-Wo Nie the District Cu Kuin make decisions and sentence him 6-12 months in prison. Vietnam police not allowed his wife and his family to visit priod.


U.S. State Department Secretary Antony Blinken in addressing the world said that we must recognize human rights and religious freedoms and extend these rights to all people to freely practice on their own.


Y-Wo Nie was first arrested in 2004 by the Vietnamese government. He and a couple of other individuals were demonstrating in Dak Lak asking for the freedom to worship God and for their land to be returned to them. Y-Wo Nie was in prison in Ha Nam from 2004 to 2013 and then released from jail. Withing him being arrested again, he will need to take extreme caution. The Montagnards who are arrested are usually poisoned by the officers that arrest them. The officers usually start by offering the victim a cup of water laced with poison. The poison works slowly and doesn't take effect until the victim drinks it, and is soon released from the custody of the Vietnamese police officers.
